Fueling Ambition Through Evolving Goals: A Mid-Year SMART Check-In

Goal setting has always been the compass guiding my professional growth. By defining SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals, I’ve been able to stay focused, motivated, and aligned with the trajectory I envision for my career. These goals are not just checkboxes—they’re milestones that keep my ambition alive, allowing me to assess progress while staying adaptable in a fast-moving industry.

My original short-term goal in Portfolio 1 was to refine my LinkedIn profile and grow my network by at least 50 new industry connections within three months. I’m proud to say I exceeded this, gaining over 75 new meaningful connections, improving my headline, summary, and skills section using tools like Taplio, and publishing content that reflects my expertise in digital marketing and branding.

The tactic of weekly engagement—commenting on posts, sharing insights, and connecting with peers from industry webinars—proved especially effective. However, one tactic that fell short was my plan to post weekly content. I managed only biweekly posts, which, while still valuable, showed me the importance of better content batching and planning.

Since then, my environment has shifted. I recently expanded my role within Strat|Viz and began working with higher-profile clients. This demands a shift in focus. My new short-term goal is to publish a case study on a successful campaign by the end of next month. Supporting tactics include collecting performance metrics, client testimonials, and visual assets, then drafting and editing the post in weekly segments.

For my medium-term goal—establishing two new strategic brand collaborations within the year—I’ve secured one so far and am in early talks for a second. As for my long-term goal of launching a branded content series or podcast, I’ve started outlining themes and identifying potential guests, moving closer to turning that vision into reality.

Goal setting is not about rigidity—it’s about direction with room to adapt. With each adjustment, my goals remain ambitious yet grounded, keeping me aligned with who I’m becoming and where I’m headed.
